At our yearly Boian Picnic, we celebrated our 40th year as a Society, the 120 years of the arrival of the Romanian Pioneers and the 100 year celebration of the unification of the principalities, that created the Romanian Nation. During the Boian Picnic, we also hosted and assisted in the production of a documentary, reflecting on the 100 years since unification, from the perspective of Romanians living in Canada. In addition, our yearly events continued at the Boian Museum, Edmonton Heritage Festival, and the ongoing dance training program for the children, among other activities.
We must also not forget the 100 year commemoration of the end of WW1, of which certain Boian, Romanian Canadian pioneer men served, among thousands of others.
In conclusion, the success of your Society, can only be attributed to the enumerable volunteer hours and efforts of your Board of Directors, the respective Committee Chairs, their families, and the countless volunteers in the background that make this Society what it is.
Wishing you all Health, Happiness and Prosperity in 2019.
Happy New Year! Un An Nou binecuvantat!
The Canadian Romanian Society of Alberta was incorporated as a non-profit organization on April 4, 1978. The idea of forming a Romanian organization was first discussed at an Annual Meeting of the Sts. Constantine and Elena Church. Grants from the Provincial Government were being discussed at the meeting, although churches or religious organizations did not qualify for grants.
